Now is the time to write that screenplay
You know you’ve been wanting to write that screenplay. You’ve thought about it. You tell yourself “one day I’ll make it happen.” Then life goes on and you put it off. Each new year rolls around and passes by while your script never gets written. That’s how I was. I thought to myself “I’ll get to it…eventually.” Then one day I was going through my daily grind and I collapsed.
I was 30 years old laying on some grimy old carpet and clutching my chest while my vision tunneled. As fear and confusion settled in, I remember thinking to myself “I’m not done yet. I have so much more to do.” Luckily I was quickly treated with nitro and recovered with no damage to my heart. It was a huge WAKE UP CALL. Here’s the thing. I’m a healthy guy. I workout. I do yoga. I try to eat well (I have a bit of a sweet tooth.) None of that mattered. You don’t know how much time you have left.
Write that screenplay. Get it done. If not for you, then do it for the person that may read your story and be moved by it. Will it be difficult? Yes. Will it take time? Of course. Will you be better off for doing it? Absolutely.
You’re not alone in this endeavor. There is a ton of support for new writers. There are forums on Reddit & Quora. There are great books out there. I always recommend Screenplay by Syd Field and The Screenwriters Bible by David Trottier. And of course we are here for you as well. We don’t just fix scripts, we develop writers.
Till next time,
